replacing a rem 700 ejector in plugged bolt face

Well went and picked up new drill bits, spot drill and 1/8 endmill Set it up today and followed suggestions to mill a clearance cut in the insert. Then centered it best I could and drilled and tapped for a 6-32 screw. Started pulling and it pulled about 1/4 inch of the plug out and left the rest in the hole. I call it success so far since I now have a factory hole to line the end mill up and finish removing the rest with a 9/64 endmill. My pin gage will allow lineup. Hole measures .146 with tight pin gage so 9/64 should remove remainder cleanly. Not done yet but feeling better. Thanks for the advice. Ordered a gretan ejector kit today

I did set it up again with the gage pin and finished cutting it with the 1/8 endmill I had. The endmill grabbed the remainder and it came out nicely. I will admit though that my initial plunge was off slightly and I noticed very light marks from the first tap I put in. But a .144 finish reamer went in smoothly and the cross pin hole cleaned up nice. Waiting for the ejector, spring and pin to complete. Appreciate all those who advised. Craig And I am not a gunsmith by the way either. Just a nervous beginner with some toys/tools.
