Replacement scale for the out of production GD-503

Re: Replacement scale for the out of production GD-505

A&D FX120i is cheaper and reads down to 2 100ths of a grain. I'm not poking fun at anyone but, a grain of h4350 or varget for that matter weighs between .02-.03grains. Not sure unless you are using a very fine ball powder why you need to go down to .002grains. Sorry to complain. Looks like a great scale if you measure ball powders and some super accurate powder charges

Or, you could use a beam scale that is sensitive and repeatable to a single kernel. Apart from the usual limitations of electrical power, a beam scale will actually show you if something is wrong. Gravity powered and infinitely reliable.

You have one too many zeros on all your numbers.

I picked up another M5 Scott. It could use a "tune-up".

Your right Eric. I fixed it. I thought about that last night after I posted it.

We all know there are multiple ways to skin a cat and get the same results ;D. I was posting this to try and help people that might be in the market for a better scale than what they have.

That Sartorius looks like the real deal. I posted yesterday on the reloading forum regarding this very thing. I was studying scales on the internet for a couple of hours, and with my limited budget already getting stretched with a new rifle and all the associated loading gear, rings, scope, components, wider front bag, etc., I found this Ohaus YJ103 scale for around $145 dollars plus shipping. It obviously isn't the horse that the big Sartorius is, but it might be a reasonable compromise. (I haven't committed yet, so I am looking for alternatives).

My electronic powder dispenser, RCBS electronic scale, and even the RCBS beam scale with the magnetic damping seem to wander over any lengthy weighing process, even with frequent zeroing and calibration, which totally defeats the whole idea.

Jim if you are on a bit of a budget its hard to beat a good beam scale. If your RCBS is messing up send it back to them. These fancy high dollar scales don't do anything a beam wont do but they do it a lot faster and you don't have to strain your eyes staring at all the lines.

Mine arrived yesterday. Hopefully I will get it unpacked tonight and glance through the manual. Check weight for calibration will arrive tomorrow.

Rick,
I got my new Sartorius ENTRIS64-1S from http://balance.balances.com/scales/569 last week. I am very happy with it. The service was super and Gary Shane the Account Executive was nice to deal with. I also got an Omega Trickler which beats my old method of using my fingers to dribble the last granules in. This will replace my old Denver Instruments TR-603D analytical balance which reads to 0.01 grains. Another decimal point can't hurt. Anybody need a good accurate used scale?
