Replacement motor for dillon polisher FWIW

so it was a bad month for my polishers, my dillon 500 died, and my midway 1292 also died. Looking for a replacement at grainger, nothing really good there, and dillon motors are pretty pricy sending it in. I found this motor on amazon
and after getting some longer bolts and lock nuts I got it going for $35. Its running now, much quieter, I'll see if it will last. the hole pattern is the same as the midway, and im pretty sure i can use it to fix the midway one after i cut off the smaller shaft. I had to drill out the fan/weight to the larger size of shaft. got another one on order.

One trick I've used with mine to hopefully prolong the motor life is run a small fan beside the polisher blowing across the motor to draw off some heat...

Harbor freight vibrate( not a tumbler )had been going great for me for 10 yrs.

Tumbler is like a rock polisher to me ....

Fast 14 is right I tried the Grainger motor and it was toast the first time I used it. I took the outboard bearing and mount off the original motor and it didn't help. I sent mine to Dillon for the 750 upgrade. I am still not sure if it is worth the time and money to do it. If you send them your tumbler they will put a new totally different style of motor on it, they replace the base with a new one the accommodates the size and shape of the new motor. In the bazzaro world of today it cost $50 to ship it to Dillon and they make the repair and send it back for IIRC $150. It was not very much cheaper than a new 750 tumbler. The tech that does the conversion said that the new motors get hot and to not run it for more than 4 hours without down time to cool. If I had it to do over, I would probably buy the giant Dillon tumbler.

I believe the Dillon vibrator is warrantied for 5 years. Replacement motors aren't. But they are Cheaper lol

I thought I read somewhere the small one had the same motor as the big one?

I have the biggest dillon model, years ago the motor failed and I called them up and they replaced it for free, and its still new in the box. I also have the first version which is still running strong.image.jpg

Dillon will no longer sell a motor, I tried but their insurance will not accept the liability. The motor for the smaller one is not made anymore, and the only thing Dillon will do is upgrade to the 750. I have no idea if the big one uses the same motor, but It would seem to me that it is not powerful enough to run the bigger capacity. I had them change the motor in mine this spring and unless things have changed that is the only option, from Dillon.

I have the Lyman Tumbler and when the first motor quit it was making noise, and I didn't check it out, one of the bolts came loose and fell down and blocked the fan, which toasted the motor. At the time Lyman sold just the bases for a reasonable price, so I bought two, one didn't last but the other has been running for well over 15 years iirc.

If I'm not mistaken Harbor Freight sells the same tumbler that Midway sells.

I've had a cv 2001 for a long long time and it has finally given up but I have tumbled brass over the weekends alot. Hopefully they have a big motor that will be able to go the distance as this one has when I send it in for replacement.
