Replacement Decapping Pin for Frankfort Arms Decapping Tool...Small Flash Hole

I'm thinking of getting some Lapua 6.5 Creedmoor brass. I currently use the Frankfort Arms decapping tool and wondered what people are doing for the smaller flash hole of Lapua brass. Can I buy a replacement pin with the proper diameter? Is is true the Lee universal replacement pin is a direct replacement? If so, does Lee offer the pin with the smaller diameter?

Don

Just file/sand it down . They are cheap so if you fudge it up then just get another . I took too much off and while depriming my LC 5.56 brass crimped primers I bent one , so I ordered 2 , 1 for regular flashhole and one I sanded to lapua size.

+1 on this. i chucked mine up in the drill press and turned with some sand paper to get to the proper diameter for the small flash holes. i use it this way with all my calibers with no issues.

Can anyone confirm some real world experience that the Lee replacement works on the Frankfort Arms deprimer tool?

I went through the same question on here recently when I bought a Frankford tool.

The answer is YES.

LEE Universal decapping die pin shafts are the same length and diameter and are a direct replacement for the Frankford depriming tool. There are many hardened steel LEE decapping pins available from aftermarket manufacturers at very affordable prices. Simple Google search will bring them up. No need to worry about the pin diameter. The standard LEE decapping pins from the factory are already small enough to fit in the smaller PPC flash hole.

That is what I did. I also used a file first to remove the bulk. The Lee universal pin didn't fit the Lapua primer hole until I reduced the pin diameter.

Different brands of brass can vary on how big they make the PPC flash hole.

The original diameter is a metric based measurement of 1.5 mm which is .059"

Norma must run their 6PPC flash holes around .0625+". Lapua cases may be smaller and closer to the actual .059". Anything else off the 220 Russian or PPC case from another manufacturer can be anywhere in between thos two.

FYI, My LEE universal decapping pin measures exactly 0.06225" diameter on my micrometer. Which is basically the American version of a hair under 1/16 of an inch.

That is a ppc-usa case which does not have the small flash hole. It would not fit in lapua brass

Not "AS" small, but still over 10 thou smaller than normal SAAMI SR primer flash holes.
I suppose it is a whole .0035" larger than the traditional .059" PPC hole. Such a huge difference! So sorry almighty Dusty Stevens...

Sinclair does make a .0625" PPC uniformer tool, but opening the flash hole from .059" to .0625" can change the the way your load will act due to altered ignition properties that the primer delivers to the powder.

Just putting it out there that the .003 actually makes a difference. The frankford decapping tool or any stock lee die will not work on lapua ppc cases.

Then I suppose the LEE decapping pin will not work on the OP's Lapua 6.5 Creedmoor SR brass without reducing the diameter because that brass does use the traditional 1.5mm flash hole.

No idea- im sure not a creedmoor man just didnt want a search to reveal that later on a ppc

Im not a 6.5 CM guy either. I do however have a 6mm CM varmint rifle I just finished up (haven't shot it yet). Noticed Lapua states on the website that their 6.5 CM SR cases use the 1.5mm flash hole.
