Removable cheek piece...

I've gotten into shooting with these big high power, big front objective lens scopes..The only trouble is I seem to be peeking/stretching up just abit to put my eye in the center of the scope..I've seen plastic velcro on cheek pieces for tactical guns..Is this a good addition to a Varmint rifle with a slightly lower comb???..I added a removable wood thing to a fiberglass thumbhole..[it seems ok,looks odd]..But the stock in question is on a Sako 75 SS Varmint..I can't bear the thought of drilling holes in that beauty...Whats the best solution or should I continue to struggle with this stock/scope combination..how much accuracy am I giving up if my eye moves just abit each shot??...I'll put up some pics later, mike in ct

Mike,

Everyone has a different shooting style. You don't mention a caliber, but as this is a Varmint gun, I'm not sure why you need a cheek weld at all. For best accuracy, consider taller scope rings and get your face off the stock entirely.

,But if we're talking about shooting from a standing position or prone, you'll probably be forced into cheek contact by the Sako stock's geometry--I would agree, don't drill into that stock. I would initially just tape on a piece of closed cell foam and find out if you really need more height on the comb.)

This weekend I was shooting a friend's 6BR at 600 yards. I had a 10-shot group shooting the gun 100% free recoil, touching nothing but the trigger. Vertical was just 1.2". I don't see how that could be any better by planting my face on the stock.

that is an interesting thought...less contact with the stock..I made up a lite foam block & just masking taped it on the comb...It may have helped I shot one 1/4 inch group..with that rebarreled sako..mike in ct
