Remington's New Bolt Action VTR

I was looking at the new Remington bolt action VTR rifles in the store the other day, and was wondering if anyone has had a chance to try one out.

I see some for sale on GunBroker.com chambered in 204, 223, 22-250, and 308.

They have a new X-Mark Pro trigger that's supposed to be 45% lighter.

They also come with an integral muzzle brake on a three sided blued barrel.

The .223 is listed as a 9 twist barrel. If somebody has one I would like to know how long the throat is, and if I can reach the rifling with a loaded round.

Thanks

I seriously considered buying a new VTR last year, then changed my mind. I have shot out numerous varmint barrels, and replaced them with custom tubes, but how would you replace a triangular shaped barrel, except thru Remington? Instead I bought a Cooper in 6mmBR with a 9 twist barrel.

Hey Joe....You had a great season this past year...Hope to see you around April....the score competition just keeps getting tougher and the smallest mistake will put you mid-pack.
Regarding the VTR and it's triangular bbl....It seems to me to be another gimmick that Remington is in constant search of,i.e e-tronix, M-700 style muzzleloaders, accellerator rounds for the 06 and 30/30, etc.and the new ar-15 looking gizmo) instead of ensuring Q.C. and products that die-hard shootists want instead of John Q. Public.Listening to competition shooters needs seems to be working for Savage.

My buddy has one in 308, it actually was the one that Mel reviewed over on snipercentral.com. He can seat bullets into the lands if he runs at 2.93 OAL,168gr Matchking). The mag box only fits 2.81 overall. So he loads to 2.81.

He's still working on a load for it, but its looking pretty good so far. He had 10 shots under 1moa in a heavy wind today. I think its capable of 1/2moa on a good day, based on some windless shooting at 300yards the other day.

I prefer round barrels. The stock is acceptable. Like most factory triggers, its pretty heavy. His plan is to shoot out this barrel, rebarrel with a high end barrel.

Its a factory rifle plain and simple. Some shoot very well, some don't. The barrel shape is proprietary which is a bad idea with the 204 and 22-250 chamberings.

The "brake" is really just a muzzle compensator.

Frankly, I like the SPS Varmint more. It is cheaper to replace the whole rifle than it is to replace a barrel and a 204 barrel lasts one season for me.

Hi all,
New member here from Australia. I just bought a VTR in 308 the other day and i have to say im very happy with it.
Cant give a great range report yet as i have only fired about 20 rounds.
