Remington.... What do i have?

I recently aquired a remington 700 rifle. Its a long action bdl chambered in 30-06 all factory with a B prefix serial #. I never pass up a deal on 700 doner actions and when i bought this that was my intentions. When i got it home and looked it over i noticed that the bolt handle has no knureling on it. Its just a round smooth ball on the end of the bolt handle. It is the original bolt that came in the gun, the bolt serial #s on the bolt and action match and the handle has not been replaced. What do i have and when did remington do this. I have never seen one like this before.

I have seen lots of 700 bolts with no checkering. I've even seen some 40X's with the smooth bolt knob.

Call Remington and ask them. Believe it or not, they keep records.

thanks just wanted to make sure i didnt have something special here. guess not, i'll prob have the barrel off of this thing and action blue printed before the weekend is out.
