remington "vintage varmint"

I have a post 64 Winchester model 70 xtr in .222. It is a push feed, with a walnut blind magazine factory stock. Throated short, we adjusted the magazine block, and bolt stop, so that we can seat plastic tipped 40s into the lands and still have them feed from the magazine. It wears a 1" Leupold 4.5x14 AO that has fine duplex hairs, and has had the trigger worked over to a nice pound and a half. With the right loads, rested and held somewhat creatively, it has put five shots under .3 with its factory sporter weight barrel. IMO the plastic tipped 40 gr. bullets have remade the .222 and .223. My usual loads were with Benchmark and Federal primers, with the bullets seated .006 longer than touching. It is my favorite varmint rifle, for the kind of shooting that I have commonly done on Calif. ground squirrels out to no more than 350 yards. Years back, I made a good choice, and separated my field rifles from my range rifles, and have been very pleased with the results. I don't torture my varmint rifles trying to get them to be what they are not, and save all of that for rifles that were built strictly for shooting groups at the range.

I picked up a painted Remington mdl 722 for $250.00 bucks. It is chambered in 6x222 Lilja barrel. I have had it re-blued, the stock refinished, and is being checkered as we speak, and picked up 150 222 cases and I haven't come up with the dies yet to do some reloading, but still looking as there has to be a set out there some where.

Drop port that is one sweet rifle . I don't care what you had to pay for it because a sako is worth it.
