Remington primers going away?

Just curious if you guys think that the trouble at Remington might affect the primer production, specifically the 7 1/2, My favorite SR primer. Just wondering if I should stock up now.

Ammo divisions operate under different marketing conditions than do firearms operations.
For example Olin got rid of Winchester the rifle company but kept Winchester the ammo manufacturer.
I would hope there are many small ammo companies that need Remington primers for 5.56 mm ammo regardless of what happens to the gun operations.

A good reloading supply store is near my home. They have not had any Rem primers in stock for at least one year. Has the bankruptcy shut them down?

Just bought 3000 of them last week from Grafs.....$30/per brick, shipping $17.95 including $10 Hazmat.

My local LGS also has plenty.....just hate the price & 10% sales tax.

I thought Olin still owns Winchester, just licenses the name and trademarks to the old guard who nearly bankrupted them...

Both Remington and Winchester fell on hard times after they lost the contract to produce ammunition at Lake City.

Both the Remington and Winchester sold their powder manufacturing to General Dynamics weapon division. And Winchester no longer makes its own brass. And both companies are a hollow shell of what they once were.

That being said I bought a brick of Remington 7 1/2 primers in the spring of the year.

ATK now has the contract at Lake City and owns Federal, CCI, Bushnell, Savage Arms, Weaver and many other firearms related companies.https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Savage_Arms

Any idea why Powder Valley hasn't had ANY Remington components in ages if you guys are finding some vendors with Remington?

Powder Valley has had most all Remington primers in stock for quite awhile. We're in the process of discontinuing all of the other Remington components except for the SAUM and other odd calibers only Remington makes. Honestly, we've been so disappointed about Remington not supplying much in the way of components for the past several years that we decided it was it was time to move on with other brands. It's like Remington has completely lost touch with the reloader. We'll be stocking Starline in the very near future to go along with the Prvi, Lapua, Nosler, Hornady and Winchester.

I've had VERY poor results with the 7.5 primer in the last year. Not sad to see them go away if that is the case.

Please elaborate.

Always used them for 6PPC and .223 - Anything I've bought off the shelf in the last year has been erratic. Groups wont hold. Switched to CCI-450's and things are tight like I expect them to be for the particular gun.

ATK split up a while ago. Vista Outdoors is the company that owns CCI, Federal, etc... The rocket stuff merged with Orbital Sciences to become Orbital ATK, which was bought out by Northrup Grumman.

ATK still owns Vista Outdoors and has the contract at Lake City, just like General Dynamics split branches from aerospace, to their weapons division that owns the old Remington/DuPont and Winchester/Olin powder production plants.

Vista Outdoor — Parent of Bushnell, CCI, Federal, Savage & More

"So what is Vista Outdoor? This corporate giant used to be the sporting division of ATK (Alliant Techsystems*). In February of this year, ATK split into two separate companies. The outdoor sports/hunting/shooting brands (with annual revenues of $2.3 billion) were consolidated into Vista Outdoor. The aerospace/military contract operations of ATK were continued in a second company, Orbital ATK. Vista Outdoor, now head-quartered in Clearfield, Utah, is a standalone, publicly-traded outdoor sports and recreation company with approximately 5,800 employees worldwide."

Thanks for the info. Recently, I have only been looking at the Remington brass (none available) and not the primers, so I was not aware that PV had any of those. I don't ever see Remington releasing any component brass to reloaders now that the shortages are over and it is still unavailable.
