Remington Nylon 66

How many shooters out there have one of these? I had one many years ago and it was stolen. Just decided to get a replacement so I went to Gunbroker. Found one that is supposed to be "mint." Can hardly wait to see it. Also, shout out if you have one of the other "nylons." Was a fun gun.

Don't have it anymore, but about 60 years ago Daddy came home with my first real rifle, a .22 Remington Nylon 12! Bolt Action, Tube Fed Magazine. Sights weren't so great, but I can not recall ever having a malfunction. I Moved on to a 10/22 and eventually traded off the 12. Now, like so many things, I kind of wish I still had the little gun.

My youth flashed before me when I saw one at a local gun store three years ago. It was mine for $200. Still has the big yellow sticker on the stock. It soothed an old wound as my older brother always shot the original "family gun" and stuck me with the bolt action.;) Funny how 50 years ago can feel like yesterday.:)

Remington had a lot of great .22s. I actually learned a lot about the '66 in my quest. Some have serial numbers, after 1968, and the earlier ones did not. They actually made a short only gallery model.

Many a wooden block and corncob died at the hands of my Nylon 66. There was a pond at the range I used to go to, and it was a .22 only, plinker's paradise. Throw in some corn cobs or wood blocks, and blast away. The EPA would no doubt be on their case nowadays. Fired many bricks thru that 66, and it never skipped a beat that I can recall. Brilliant design.

Mine is still in the safe also.
Grand pop bought it to shoot with my older cousins and he passed a year before I was born.
I luckily got it from my uncle when I was about 10 and put every bit of my allowance and grass cutting money I could get over the next several years through it in mini mags.

Still get it out every few years for nostalgia

There were a lot of brilliant designs back then. Why did they go away? I would have thought that this was an inexpensive product for Remington. Guess the sales just dropped off.

I had a Weaver J 2.5 on the one I lost. What do you have for scopes on yours? I am thinking of a Weaver 3x9 rimfire A.O. on my new one.

I purchased a Remington 66 in 1960. I was sixteen years old and it was my first gun.
Gave it to my son and he sold it.
Now I wish I had kept the rifle.
Never had any problems and it was quite accurate.
At least more accurate than I was!!

Dollar for dollar, one of the finest.
The oh, so mushy trigger really teaches "control" but with almost no attention and decent HS ammo the reliability was/is phenomenal.

Note: As long as you don't torque or put lateral pressure on the forearm they are also remarkably consistent and accurate.

No experience with the Nylon 66, but I have a Nylon 12 that I got from my mother. She thinks her father bought it for her in 1962. Shot a many thousands of rounds with it growing up and still occasionally shoot it. The only other one I have ever seen was one at a pawn shop in Canon City quite a few years ago, wish I would have bought it.

I have a buddy that has a Nylon 11, which is the only one of that model that I have ever seen.

When my boys were in High School they would go through a case of 5K in about 6 weeks sometimes less with the Nylon 66. I don't remember a single malfunction with it. It has certainly earned its place on retirement row in the safe.

Id love to have a nylon and even more a bdl speedmaster.
We bought Nylon 66's for $39 back in about 1974. I used to buy them and give them to friends who helped me on projects and wouldn't accept $. Some "experts" claimed they were too light to be accurate. We hunted rabbits with beagles and a bunch of cottontails and snowshoe hares would disagree. I gave mine to my youngest son and now I have to endure a browning. Mine never failed me.

What is the difference between them? Is one a clip?

My theory is that the advent of the Ruger 10-22 for around $89.95 spelled death for a lot of the economical 22's of the day.

I never knew anyone who had a Nylon 66 that didn't love it though. jd

I went to my favorite gun shop to replace the "66" and the lady told me that they had one forever and it sold the previous week. She had a 10-22 so I bought it. Still have it, a deluxe model.
