Remington's premium semi auto rifle, but keep in mind, condition is everything, 500-800 average

Mark, thanks for the reply. I don’t have any experience with a model four. As far a functionability and reliability. This is the First one I’ve come across.

Historically they run fine till the lug recesses wear or are peened and then the gun is junk. For a hunting rifle they are fine. Minute of deer, reliable and points like an 1100.

Snert, thanks for the reply. This is my friend’s Father’s gun , that he purchased new. Hasn’t been shot very much and actually looks very good. He is going to sell and asked me questions about it. I never saw one or know anything about it. That’s why I posted here for info. Thanks again Fred C

Back in my first few years of deer hunting I had a couple 760s, a 742 and then a Model 4. The Model four would not shoot 1 minute of deer with the mag in. Single shot it was great. The two piece bolt would not lock up the same every time. Bought my first bolt gun. Model 77 in 25-06. It was a great shooter back then.

My Blue Book is a few years old now, but a Model Four had to be in 100% (mint) condition to be worth $700. A 90% rated $375. You can't rely on asking prices on Gunbroker, you have to look for ones that actually sold, and there may not be any of those.

My first centerfire rifle was a 742, I have no need for a single shot. If you have ever owned one you know what i mean.

I bought mine from my brother, he had a friend with a drug problem and he told my brother that he was going to sell it to buy dope he might as well sell it to some one he liked. My brother gave $125 for it, I gave him $175 for it. I sold a few years latter for $350. He 40 years later tells his friends i screwed him on the gun cause I made more on it than he did.
