Remington Model 7 actions

Is there a size difference among model 7 actions Re: 308 vs 223 vs 7saum?? How are these actions for building a custom light weight hunting rig?

Thanks

Doug

Their all the same size externaly , the feed rails differ some.
If I were gonnabuild a custom on a rem action I'd use the 700 short ,the mag box is easier to modify to use longer rounds and the weight differance is nill.

I put together a sweet 6x47 Lapua on a M-7 , turned out great but it was a single shot , the accuracy potential is their

JD, always nice to hear from you. What do you mean that some of the rails are different size? I think I get it but not sure.

Let me be more clear - I have a model 7 in 7saum and I want to make either a 6mm remignton a 6br or a 7/08.

The feed rails are wider on your SAUM to allow the fatter cases to feed from the magazine, which means the narrower cases you're contemplating probably won't stay in the magazine, as the bottom of the feed rails is what holds the cases down in place.

yep your going to have a problem with that those bullets will tend to pop out of the box to soon, T.R.

An option could be to make it a detachable mag rifle, then the DBM would hold/feed the cartridges

The M7 is a fine action, but I also prefer the 700 S/A. Two scope base holes on the bridge instead of just one on the M7, and more stocks easily available for the M700. Other than that, the M7 can be just as accurate as the 700.

Good luck, Tom

Look at Kevin Wyatts' heat treated, CM single stack feed mag boxes. With slight amount of modfication they can be made to work in a remington model 7. It is the best answer for the 308 and short fat magnums.

You may need to tig or braze the back shut.
