Remington model 4 30-06 twist rate

I realize this might not be the place for this request, but in my experience folks interested in accuracy worked their way up from hunting guns.

I have a buddy that shoots a Rem model 4 30-06 (since the 80's) and wants to know what to shoot in it.

He wants 180gr factory loads but that might be borderline stable depending on bullet manufacture and twist.

the first shot out of this rifle nearly 30 years ago killed a deer but we have no idea how it groups ( we will find out this year).

any advice?

It will shoot up to 220 gr bullets.

Check it with a cleaning rod as you clean it up for him

Good advice on the cleaning rod test but this is long distance help lol
thanks for 1:10 advice, interestingly my Tikka T3 hunter is 1:11 so what works for me will prob work for him.
that said he will do fine with 180's ( i will load up some 169's just in case tho cant use same brass)

I tried some federal premium ammo with sierra soft point 165 grain gamekings and it shot real well out of a 30-06 encore. If they still make it ,it would be worth a try. I have always found that the 30-06 did really well with mid 160 class ammo. It was great stuff but again not sure what loadings they offer as of now.

crap he is not keen on testing.... he wants cheapest bullets... this seems like politics now, ideology vs evidence
how do i convince him to accept the evidence of our testing?he is not stupid but he is not correct...eh not important - more important to be bud with him and deer heart soup.... sigh
