Remington J lock bolt

If you lock the bolt ( I never did) & lose the key, you're out of business.

I quickly replaced mine with the PTG firing pin shroud assembly.

Not one of Remington's better idea's, probably lawyer mandated, but they put an end to it after a very short time.

Never did find a "pro".

what pro's? There are none with the J-lock.
The springs are typically all messed up, and you're better off buying an aftermarket firing pin assembly for 50 buck or so.

back when i bought such rems to use for a custom build, i would check to be sure the bolt was functional and then THROW that d**m locking key in the trash. i also replaced the shroud/spring/firing pin with pt&g;s replacement and have never been happier. a coiled ,distorted spring rubbing against the inside bolt can be heard and definitely felt when released and induces enough vibration that accuracy is affected. just curious... what can one do if, heaven forbid, the bolt is locked and the "key" is lost? are the "keys" interchangeable?

It was a horrible idea by Remington, one of many. I replaced mine with an after market firing pin assmebly and tossed the factory one in the trash.

Not unlike their E-Tronix primer system. I remember the pundits saying it would make "old fashioned" primers obsolete, and we all gotta go out & buy one of these rifles A.S.A.P. "The greatest single advance in firearms we've seen in a century" declared one "expert".

The whole idea crashed and burned in record short time.
