Remington Bolt

On a standard remington bolt, do any of ya'll have problems with the ejector pin pushing the cartridge slightly out of line so that the extractor can slide over the base leaving partial rifling marks on your bullet?
I took a Hornady OAL gauge tool and set my seated bullet 2 thousands shorter than the actual OAL.
I then made a spec cartridge with out a primer to use as a reference. Just to check it I took a sharpie and colored the bullet and chambered it.
I am getting rifling marks only on part of the bullet about 1/3 of diameter,,basically opposite of the ejector pin) the rest is all clear.
I was wondering if a sako extractor would be better and eliminate this slight tweaking of the cartidge when chambering or is the ejector pin really necessary?
This is a magnum rifle in a 40x small action, have to remove the bolt to remove a live round.

Either remove the ejector spring or take a few coils off of it. This should fix your symptoms -

BUT from you description it seems that the cartridge is undersize for your rifle's chamber. I would sugguest that you neck size only if you have not. Also consider seating the bullet into the rifling to have it help in centering the cartridge in the chamber.

+1 to Travelor's advice.

The ejector pin and spring are easily removed and re-installed with a small punch and hammer. You can see the pin in the bolt that stakes it in place. If you are patient and do not take off too many coils at first, ask me how I know) you can decrease the pressure to set it very light and get the case to drop right out to the side vs several feet away.

The Sako extractor works great and does not push the case to the side. It theoretically does weaken the design of the Remington "3 rings of steel" system, but there are tons of them that have been done and most see this as a non issue.

All I do is neck size, I do not full length resize unless I am getting short on case length, if full length does not bring it back I chunk the brass.
So if I remove the spring on the ejector pin all together then I should no longer get the sideways push. I'll give it a try, then if that don't work I'll try the removing a coil or two at a time. Looks like I better order a sinclair tool soon.
Thanks for the info guys.
