Remington bolt handle replacement??

I thought I saw a couple of posts about someone replacing bolt handles on Remington bolts or shipping them off to someone that did. I did a search and couldn't find what I "thought" I was looking for. Anybody ship one off for repair? And what kind of work did they do? Thanks. Mike.

Thanks guys. When I did a search I saw the post in the "gunsmithing" section but I thought I had seen one where a bolt was shipped out to Alaska? to get done. I bent mine after I pierced a primer and had to take a small dead blow hammer to it to get it open. Got the handle straightened out and the bolt works smooth now but I thought I would like to get a longer replacement. The factory XP dog leg isn't as strong as it looks. Maybe I was looking for a post that didn't happen?? ;)Again thanks. Mike.

Thanks guys. You guys are good!! What else can I say! I'll do the email thing and see what he,Dan) has to say. Now if someone has a picture of a bolt that has been welded by him I sure would like to see it! Maybe asking too much?? ;) Again, thanks. Mike.

I swapped mine out. just heat it up with a torch and melt the braze off. then do the same thing with some silver solder and put the new one on. brownells sells aftermarket longer ones. thats where i got mine. hard part is getting it lined up since the heat will remove any pencil, pen marks you put,,DOH!!) I'd use a scribe to mark the outline of the old one. it pretty much removed the parkerizing from my bolt as well. so i sent the bolt out to greg at GRE-TAN and had him ceramic coat the boat and he bushed the firing pin while he had it. was about 85 for ceramic and bushing.

Lynn. Thanks for jumping in here. I knew I had seen a post from you but just couldn't find it. Now I know why.;) I have been talking to Dan and I'am going to ship him my bolt and have him do his thing on it. Rather then try to take the bolt apart with a screw driver, or whatever, I ordered the proper tool and a extra handle. I wasn't sure about the SS so I went with the CM. Wasn't sure if you could mix the two different metals. Thanks again. Mike.

Changing out a Remington bolt handle is not hard, Brownells has the bolt handles, jig to hold it in position while silver soldering it, the heat control past, the heat sink to go inside of the bolt etc. I do them quite often. I use a tactical bolt handle and they really work good. I also use the bolt bodys from ETC, they are listed in the Midway Catalog. ETC is owned by Picfic told and gauge

Lynn. I got the "special" tool and a extra bolt handle. They have both been shipped off to Dan so he can do his thing. Should have the bolt back before too long. I'll let you know how his work turns out. But you said that you liked his job so thats good enough for me. I'll see if I can post a couple pictures, before and after,so we can see what it looks like. Thanks. Mike.

Dave: Well done! :thumb: I also like the color of that stock!,Mikie likes it!!)
I found that the firing pin was "real" easy to remove. Didn't really need the "special" tool to get the job done but now that I've got it I can see just how easy it was to remove. But now "I've" got the "special" tool. Don't know till you try it! ;)
As far as welding or soldering on a replacement handle, I figured it would be easier to let someone that has done it before do it. Some folks can do a better job than others. Especially with the proper equipment! Mike.

Dave. The "desert Camo" doesn't sound right to me?? Looks like you might have put a little color tint on the bare wood? Correct me if I'am wrong. No matter what, it turned out real nice. Good job!!:thumb: The desert camo that I've seen will never look that good!!
And the bolt handle looks good too. ;)Mike.

Just got a better look at the stock. Might be the lighting for the camra shot that makes it look darker. No matter. Still looks good!!
