Remington bolt handle replacement

Who makes a nice replacement bolt handle for a Rem 700. I looked at the Dakota arms handle on Brownells web site but cant really tell anything about it from the picture. I do not want a large tactical knob just something graceful like a pre 64 win. The 700 handle is the most God awful ugly thing put on a rifle. imho.

Also, about what would a smith charge to install one?

I understand that Jim Cloward, Seattle area rifle builder,and US Palma Team armorer), makes a sweet Model 70 style bolt handle conversion for the Rem 700. I've got his phone number if you'd like it. He builds a bunch of bolt rifles for the highpower shooters. Regards, Guy

Holland's makes a forged replacement handle w/Model 70 style knob that is approximately 5/8" longer than a std. Rem handle.
Dave Kiff @ PT&G turns replacement Rem handles.

I TIG weld several bolt handles a week for individuals.

I`ve sent 3 of my 700 bolts to RW HART & SONS and had them weld their extended bolt handle.Very nice handle and very nice work.Was under $70.00,handle& installation).Can get stainless or blued.Worth checking out! hope this helps.......

I ordered a callahan from Midway. I like it OK. I am not thrilled with the shape of the knob. It starts out nice and graceful from the handle itself then stops abruptly at a flat bottom. I like it way better than the original though. Note: in the pics it is attached temporarily with tape.

Shipped my Remington XP bolt up to Alaska for Dan,Dans40X) to do the replacement. Got it back today. Did a "super" job.
The XP handle had a bend in it. Went after it with a soft faced hammer after it locked up from a pierced primer.Worked OK after I got the handle straightened out. Thought it would be a good time/reason to replace it.

Thanks guys for the good info and pics. I just recently ordered a callahan bolt handle and had Dan in Fairbanks Alaska TIG welded it on for me. I was very happy with his work and this bolt handle was a big improvement. Here it is.

I put a few of the Dakota handles on, they turn out really nice.

I use PTG handles. Nice ramp. Moderate price. screw on any knob you want.
