Remington Benchrest Trigger too light

I bought this Remington benchrest rifle used. The previous owner then died and obviously can give me no help. The factory Remington BR trigger is too light. I turned in the screw on the trigger return spring about 1/2 turn and the trigger would not release. Is it possible to install a heavier trigger return spring and will this make the trigger a little heavier? Where can I get such a spring? If I sell the trigger and buy another, how much can I get for it? Thanks.

Check with R.W. Hart and Sons in PA. they made the Rem. 2oz. trigger for Rem. for a while at the begining.

What weight range are you looking for? If you want a trigger in the 1 1/2 lb to 4 lb go with a sporter rem fact. or after market. You might try Wolf springs and see if they can sell you a heavy spring. It would help to know if you have a 2 or 3 lever trigger. What is the current pull weight?

Jewel makes a trigger that will fit your rifle that will adjust from 1.5 oz. to several pounds. Buy the Jewel, sell your trigger. Lester Bruno sells them. The model is the HVR. There are several options. Bolt release, and a couple of types of safety, or neither.

After returning the screw to it's original postion the trigger worked, so no harm. I've been told that this trigger will only go to 4oz so it looks like I'll be buying another trigger. I was looking to get to at least 8oz pull, maybe more. It's lighter than either of my Anschutz target triggers.

The previous owner told me that it is a factory Remington 3 lever trigger. He bought it when he was competing in a factory class of benchrest and the factory trigger was required. That was almost 10 years ago.

I do have a factory sporter old style Remington trigger new in the wrapper I could use and may go with that until I get the Jewell. The Jewells are over $200 for one with safety. Anyone wanna buy a Remington trigger?

When you change one adjustment on a Remington trigger, it often changes the others. They have to be adjusted as a unit. The 3-lever triggers are not as good as some of the best after-market triggers but they can be adjusted to where they are almost as good. Get a copy of the adjustment instructions and try again.

I decided that changing triggers was probably the wisest thing to do, so I bought a Jewell and what a trigger that is. I've also sold the Remington trigger since I last left a message so I won't be making any more adjustments. Thanks a lot for the information gentlemen. There's a wealth of knowledge here and folks willing to share it. I really appreciate it.
