Remington BDL Bottom metal

I bought a McMillian Game Warden 2.0 with a Rem 700 SA BDL cutout. I also purchased a Hawkins M5 Detachable Bottom Metal. Until now I didn't know there was a distinction in length between the two. The M5 is 1/4" longer, but the action screw holes line up perfectly. Can a gunsmith use a Dremel tool to fit the M5 DBM without ruining the stock?

It requires more inletting than just the length. I would contact McMillian. They can probably do this for you cheaper than most gunsmiths. Certainly a better option that taking a Dremel to it.

Another option would be to trade your M5 for an HS Precision or Wyatt (and maybe others) DBM that fits the R700 standard footprint.

If I had a local smith that was good at cutting on stocks (many are not), I would consider having him fit and tune the bottom metal and while he had it bed my barreled action. He will not use a dremel tool.

LRI or Unknown Munitions will inlet for M5 with CNC. There are others out there that will do it too.

I decided to keep it a BDL inlet. I sent the M5 DBM back for a refund and ordered a BDL bottom metal kit.
Good choice! I just had second Model7 one done with badger triggerguard ( M7). The badger is made for the H-S so no hassle fit. CNC program just cuts it to right size and depth for flush fit. And then the second one was for a CF stock with a thicker molded cross section resulting in the mag catch lever not securing the mag properly which made it rattle. So smith swapped out the lever with a longer M5 version to make it work properly ( lucky) and also had to make new screws 70m longer for full thread contact in the receiver. So depends on what stock your particular AI mag size trigger guard was designed for. Not a dremel job unless you want it to look like one!
