Remington Action ??????

How can one tell if they have a Remington 700 BDL,ADL or any other style there is? Is it the screw spacing?

No difference in the screw spacings for either model..
The only difference between the two actions is rather they use a hinged floorplate or not..
The ADL only has a trigger guard, and the rounds have to come out the top.
Lay both actions side by side and you can not tell the difference....

Preacher is, as always "Dead On", it should be noted by all, knowing that it's not the Action that makes it an ADL, BDL, etc.....it's the TRIGGER GUARD, STOCK and MAGAZINE.

If savage could of only kept it this simple.........

So if I have a hinged floor plate it is a BDL? Also, if I order a stock for a 700 then could I order a ADL if im just going to use it as a single shot?

Josh,

you can use either as a single shot, and they both have magazines; the BDL has the hinged floorplate, while the ADL has a simple blind magazine. The BDL can be emptied by dumping the rounds through the floorplate, while the ADL has to be unloaded by popping the rounds out the mag thru the top, or cycling them partially through the action. You can convert one to the other simply by swapping stocks and floorplate/trigger guard assemblies. If you want a true single shot, you'll need to take a look at their (Remington's) 40-X line from the Custom Shop.

The magazine box is slightly deeper on the ADL and is attached to the bottom of the action via a single 4-40 screw thru a tab that's part of the box. Some BDL boxes, used in an ADL stock, don't want to stay in place as they're a bit shorter in height and there's no screw holding it to the action. If not too loose, the mag spring and follower will hold the BDL box in place when in an ADL stock. The ADL box is too deep to fit between the action and bottom metal in a BDL set-up.
