ducks-and-bucks

I had bought an action from brownells a while ago and sold it to someone on here.. no problems at all.. BUT I wanted to share the info that I got in an email today just so the word gets out! I don't know what it is about, but good for everyone who it may effect to have a heads up:

Our records indicate you purchased a Remington Model 700™ action or X-Mark Pro® (XMP®) trigger from us here at Brownells on 01/28/2013. We want you to know that Remington has issued a voluntary recall on those actions and triggers manufactured between May 1, 2006 and April 9, 2014.

Remington has indicated you should STOP USE of the action/trigger immediately, and determine if your serial number has been recalled. Remington has provided a website to make it easy for you to determine if your serial number has been recalled. To check your serial number, click here.

If you're unable to visit Remington's website, you may also call 800-243-9700 (prompt #3, then prompt #1) Monday-Friday, 9 AM to 5 PM EDT to inquire.

If your part is included in this recall, please contact Remington directly to arrange for inspection and/or repair of the part.

Over use of sealant on the adjusting screws and may have gooten in the trigger mechanism.

Any idea if you can just send the trigger back to them????

I`ve been on hold for 20 minutes.........thats enough of that!!!!!

I have 3 Rem. items subject to recall. I called and talked with CS rep and also a few days later appled on net since I got labels (via email) and no boxes. Still have no message about boxes on way. Rem is supposed to send boxes & labels by UPS and then UPS is supposed to pick them up. However, I think they are swamped and the "new hires" in CS at Rem are struggling.

So, I ordered 3 replacement triggers today. I haven't had any difficulty with the safeties - but the muzzle and my trigger finger stay in the right place.

<<<They will not take just a safety, but want the complete unit. >>>

Timewise, what with three scope unmounts, remounts, boresight, and zero check at range, the replacement triggers will save much aggravation.

And, as someone might ask, I got Timneys with safeties set at 2 lb. These are hunting rifles, a 700 with a 5R M-24 reject bbl and 2 Mod 7s. And, I couldn't afford a Huber. I got drop-ins cause I'm old and my fingers don't work good.

I have wanted to register here for sometime now as I have been reading the site and also specifically Lawyer Salazar, who has posted some great technical stuff herein.

Note that this is not a recommend or a complaint about Rem. It is what happened with me and the famous recall.

I've got a pile of those POS X-Mark Pro triggers stashed away - out of sight/out of mind. So when I received the recall notice from Brownells (where I purchase most of the bare M700 actions I use to build around), I read, then deleted it. All mine (including the ones I've built for customers) have either Jewell or Timney triggers.

Recall announced in Daily Bulletin on April 12th:

There are some photos that will help you identify if your rifle is subject to recall. Also, you'll find links to recall info from Remington.

It would be nice if Rem. would take just the trigger(s) to be repaired, especially since they are identified by the grooves on the trigger.

I replace all of mine with Jewel triggers anyway, but it would be nice to have triggers that are re-sale capable,i would not want to sell anything knowing that there is a problem.

Since they won`t just repair the trigger I guess they are JUNK........NICE GOING REMINGTON..... >:(

phil-
"especially since they are identified by the grooves on the trigger".

With pictures, some still do not have a clue!

The X Mark trigger group is-
Identified by the LACK OF GROOVES on the trigger.

OOPS.....

Thanks for catching my mistake Dan....

Seems i out type my memory sometimes..... :o

Either way it sucks that Rem. isn`t going to repair triggers that have been removed, i figured someone might be interested in the Xmark, but mine will go in the trash....seemingly where they belong.

Phil.

Mine was identified by the lack of adjustment! Taking the set screw completely out it still bottomed out my trigger gauge. Replaced it with a Timney

It is NOT that Remington "isn't going to... "

... it is a legal/liability issue - once you break the seals on a Remington trigger, they will NOT do anything with it, except replace it, and you get charged for the trigger and labor. It has been their policy since Moses came down with the tablets!

They have no options.

Re: Remington Action RECALL!!!! opinion

I have a 22-250 varmint involved in this recall. My gunsmith and I had a conversation About how incredibly stupid this situation is. The XMP trigger was put out as an adjustable trigger. When I bought it I called Remington and asked customer service where are the instructions. CS told me to take it to a gunsmith - Really. So then they turn around and put too much goop on the screws!!! on an adjustable trigger - Really. I have been waiting for the shipping materials a week now. HSPS as anyone have any feedback on how fast Remington is responding??

UPDATE: I received three boxes this PM for shipping and an email with labels, etc.

However, I had decided to replace the suspect triggers with Timneys since even if Remington "checked" the triggers, they would still be X Mark triggers. Additionally, the pull weight might well be increased, etc. And, if they screwed up on this order of magnitude once, who's to say that they won't again. Obviously, there have been enough ADs to force them to recall all the X-Mark triggers.

At least I won't have to unmount/remount 3 scopes, with the obligatory boresighting and range trip.

what seals? its 2 pins
They have several options
1) make a decent trigger in the first place
2) take care of their customers that can remove and replace a freakin trigger
3) have their dissatisfied customers return the guns for a refund and buy something else that works
