Remington action is not straight truing question

I have a rem 700 short action I started trued that was way out. When I thought I was done I started to bolt it into the chassis I have with the barrel for a test fit. I noticed the barrel was hitting one side of the chassis. This is an AICS that I had used before. So I tried another action in the stock which fit fine. Long story short I checked the action on a flat block and v block and found the action is warped slightly.

I think to fix this I may try grinding the lower half of the action to make it straight. Either on a surface grinder or buying a tool post grinder.

Has anyone ever had a receiver that was this far out and what did you do to fix it? I am not sure I should even worry about trying to fix this action. I might just put it in stock and bed it so it sits straight.

So you trued it, now its crooked?
It would seem that he is finding out that the OD of the action is not concentric with the centerline regardless if the key surfaces of the action have been trued. This will haunt you in a chassis set up.

I've got one that's probably not as bad as yours but it's definitely off center. I just bedded it straight to the channel and called it good. It shoots quite well.

The exterior is what I found is not concentric to the bolt raceway. The raceway, face, bolt lug contact surfaces, scope mount holes and threads are straight relative to each other though.

I am considering trying to grind the lower half of the OD on the receiver on the surface grinder to align it with the bore. I may also try to figure a way to align the screw holes in the receiver.

Has anyone ever done this or considered doing this? I am wondering if it would make any difference on accuracy. I checked the other factory actions I had on hand and found that all were of to some degree on the outside but this was the worst.

If you have a mandrel that fits the threads closely and sticks out either end of the action, you can put it on centers on the ends of the mandrel and turn it true on the lathe with carbide tooling; or I don't see why you couldn't set it up with the mandrel between centers on a large surface grinder and do the same.

Setting up on centers in the surface grinder is what I plan to do. I don't know if I want to mess with the top of the action since I think it may affect scope alignment. Anyway I have a few weeks to think about it while I am gone. I will tackle this when I get back home.
