Remington 783 vs. 700 for Match Rifle Build

I sure wish they made a Grayboe for the 783. I can't get used to a chassis type stock for use as a truck gun. I can shoulder and get on targets of opportunity much faster with a conventional stock.

Seems I read a post some time in the last year or so regarding using the Rem. 783 action instead of the 700 because it had tighter tolerances and such. Anyone have any input? Is the footprint close enough for easy mod from one to the other?
I like the 783 but it’s not a close fit in a 700 stock. It’s closer to a savage and I’ve actually put a SA 783 in a SA savage stock. Wouldnt recommend it though. Also have had trouble finding parts — common stuff like extractors ejectors ect. I’ve actually made some guard screws out of blanks.

Marlin extractor fits - and a Savage Model 10 only needs a little filing.

My 783 is different from the standard 783. It came factory with a 16.5" heavy barrel (described somewhere as a magnum contour), enlarged round bolt handle, and a picatinny base installed. I'll try to get pictures up when I return to work Monday.

I looked at Remington's site and they appear to be adding heavy barrel models. I even saw some with the 16.5" in 300 Blackout and 3 models have 24" barrels. I have also seen the one like I have for sale as low as $339.

Mine has shot some good groups and the barrel doesn't copper foul much. I have been working on some 55 gr. loads for it and shooting in 5-9 mph winds have given me mostly 3/4" groups and I'm not experienced in shooting groups in the wind. It is a working gun and for fun I can whack eggs at 200 yards regularly.
