Remington 722 same barrel threading as a 700?

I have a tried and true Remington 722 chambered in a wildcat - Would like to swap the barrel and I'm curious if one of the savage style pre-fit barrels (such as those made by Criterion) that are cut for a Remington 700 would fit the 722?

My understanding is that the 722/721 were the short/long action before the 700 became popular, or something like that.

Short answer yes they are the same threads, I put a 270 win barrel from 700 on a 721 action and had to cut .003 from the shoulder to get it headspaced to my liking. It probably would have worked as it was only .005" long which is close to no-go gauge depend on which one was used.

Cool. That's what I thought. The pre-fit barrels have a nut used for headspacing, so I need to decide on a caliber (22-250 I think) and order up some bits and pieces!

I had a 722(previously a 300 Savage) that threads were too tight to screw a 700 barrel onto.

Good to have, but I meant the width of the shank...
Look for 1.062........
The thread is 16 TPI....

Yes they are the same. I just finished a few months ago, replacing the barrel in my 722 with a McGowan Remage barrel. Job was easy & results are excellent.
