Remington 700 Sendero

I have the chance to pick up a used Remington 700 Sendero chambered in .300 Win Mag.
I'd like some feed back please.

Thx

I would say go for it and don't look back.
I had the chance to do the same and it shot pretty darn good.
if the barrel is worn out at least you already have a strong foundation to build on.
the only problem with mine or at least to me was that it was the stainless model but a quick trip to the cerekote place and all is well.

I SHOT ONE OF THOSE SEVERAL YRS BACK IN A FACTORY CLASS 1000YD MATCH MINE LOVED RL-22 AND 185GR BERGERS MY MIND SERVES ME RITE I SHOT 11 OR 12'' GROUP RITE OFF I SAY GO FOR It !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

How much? How old is it? Remington still sells these and can be bought new for $1,000 or so.

The Sendero have a really good H.S. Precision stock. If it has been used just for hunting the barrel is probably fine since not many people shoot a 300 Win Mag for giggles.

But if you have to replace the barrel, that would be a huge factor in the price I would pay.

Did you swap out the barrel or shoot it as is?

That's no lie. I put 6 rounds thru it and all I could think was.. Sure glad this thing weights 11 lbs.

FIRST YRS SHOT AS IS REBARRELLED THE FOLLOWING YR MY COUSIN SHOT ONE IN 7MM THE SAME YR WITH GOOD RESULTS

I got the first sendero in 25-06 sold in my state and that was a long time ago. I lost count on number of bullets down barrel. I do know that book is 3.250 max coal and mine is at 3.359 now and rifle still shoots great out to 1000yds. I was going to rebarrel it but went to 115 bergers and gun shot great and now has 1000 bergers down the tube. love them bergers!

Check the serial number to see when it was made. If it's a 1990s model then BUY IT! They are shooters. I've got one from that Era in 270 Win. It's a tack driver and as a buddy of mine said when watching me hit steel at 1000 yards with it "I wouldn't want you shooting at me."

I also own one that was purchased new in 1999. If I'm not mistaken, it was $599 NIB then. As others have stated, they were (are) shooters.

What kind of shooting do you plan to use it for?

Mostly for steel matches. To dang heavy for a walking huntin gun.

Even tho I haven't had a chance to run the serial number
I decided I'd go ahead and buy it. With all the positive feed back plus actually putting some rounds thru it, figured I could t go wrong.

Thx guys.

that barrel will get awfully hot shooting steel matches. 10-15 rounds of 300wm can get even a heavy barrel toasty.

No complaints on mine. It has accounted for a lot of game. If you want to see some load development targets, you can start reading here:

I have a 7 mm Ultra mag in the sendero I made a 1100 yard shot only pronghorn with no problems I think they are great rifles. New trigger a little bedding work and you're good to go.

I have two Senderos that are at least 10 years old and they look and feel nothing like any other Remingtons I have. It's like they are made in a different factory. Running the Hawkeye down the Sendero barrel looks like a custom lapped barrel and the others have tooling marks like the are from Hong Kong Freight. Are they just made to a different standard for the higher price ? Are they still made that way ? Even the triggers were a crisp 3lbs. Both are shooters with no work done to them.

Probably just hear say as I haven't been able to verify it, but I read somewhere that the early Sender's were produced in Remington's Custom Shop.

I know what you mean. Maybe it's the stock. I set the rifle in a vise and the trigger consistently broke at 3 lbs. After running the brush and solvent thru thru the barrel, the patches were slick and smooth, not grabby. Just one continuous motion.

I picked mine up in a pawn shop. They wanted 900. I got it for 700. After cleaning it up and starting to work some loads with 190/220gr sierra Mach kings it’s got a lot of promise.
