Remington 700 failure to eject

I recently purchased a remington 700 chambered in 6.5x284. It's built on a long action and the action was supposed to have been trued. The rifle fails to eject fired cases and loaded cases about 60 % of the time.
All of my other 700's have a prefectly round rim on the bolt, this one is not. . My question is could this be the cause of the failure to eject? If so what can be done to fix it? Pic is attached.
Thanks for any help.

Looks like you need to start by cleaning it. All that brass and crud built up on the face will cause problems...

Judging by how nasty the bolt face looks, I'd strip the whole thing down and give it a good thorough cleaning. Be sure to clean in the front receiver area too cuz I can see gunk all over your recoil lugs. :-\

The cut out on the face is normal. Here's a link to a picture of 700 bolt faces in .378", .473"and .532"

I feel a little stupid, that's all it was. I cleaned it up and it seems to work fine. I jumped to the conclusion that something was wrong with it and that's why the previous owner sold it. Learned a little lesson today.

Honestly I have never seen that rough of a bolt ever. Can you post a pic of it cleaned up? I don't know if it is the picture but looking at it ,the firing pin looks off center. It may be a candidate to go to Gre-Tan for a bushing job so the pin feeds perfectly straight and when you get it back it will still be head spaced correctly. I had a .308 bolt that had been abused and when I got it back the bolt and face looked like new and he turned the pin down to a smaller size and no more problems since.

Nothing wrong with asking questions. We all get worried and flustered if we just purchased something and it doesn't work correctly. The previous owner definitely neglected that poor rifle for a LONG time. First thing I do whenever I buy a firearm, new or old, is I take it completely apart and clean everything I possibly can before I ever fire it. It's a good habit to get into. Good luck with your new rifle :)

If you wanted to really make sure you don't have problems in the future you couls remove the ejector and clean the recess it rides in and the spring that moves the ejector. I had one that had issues and it was nasty and rusty in that little hole.

Most of us, if not all, have had a similar experience. Not necessarily with a bolt but with other issues.

Well said.
