Remington 700 Extractor

Does anyone make an extractor for a Rem 700 that would pull a PPC case? My bolt is a standard .473 diameter and I was wondering if a custom bolt like my panda can be made to pull both cases why couldn't a factory style extractor be made to pull both on a 700?

See if you can find a rem 600 35 rem extractor . It's been 20 plus years since I've done one , but IF I remember correctly it was a direct replacement for that error 700 bolt .

This is my take on the problem. The forward edge of the factory 700 extractor cannot protrude into the head recess as it would need to do to reliably pull a PPC case in a .473 recess. If it did the extractor would bend and slip around and/or mangle the PPC rim on a hard extraction. The original design requires the extractor to be a specific size matching the head recess so that the forward side wall of the extractor groove supports the forward edge of the extractor hook. Since Rem. only makes the 3 standard sizes, the fix has been to install a Sako or M-16 extractor to fit the PPC case head. The factory extractor is a specially formed spring that requires custom tooling to make. Because of the limited demand, no doubt the cost of the tooling has prevented an aftermarket supplier start-up.

Rem made 4 std sizes , 223, 35 rem , 473, magnum. Don't know if the 35 rems are still available , I had a supply 10-12 of them but used them over the yrs . Mostly for pPC conv.
