Remington 700 17fireball value?

I have the unpleasant chore of helping the widow of one of my best friends sell some of the guns and shooting stuff.
I don't want to be price gauging but I also don't want to leave money on the table that his Mrs. could use.
I think this rifle might have fired 500 rounds but never abused. I know there are different magazine parts and modified extractor for the very short cartridge. It seems doubtful to me that we will ever see this in production again.
Helpful opinions are welcome.

Remington values should be plummeting now. :)
It is hard to imagine how poorly a firearm mfr was managed to end up in bankruptcy during this period of highest sales in history.
That said, any fireball rifle I have been watching on Gunbroker has been bringing $1200 or more. Crazy in my opinion.

Couple things would be help to know in order to give the best estimation on value.

Is this a semi custom chambered and built by a gunsmith or is it a factory made started life 17 Fireball?

If it's a semi custom then more questions will need to be answered in order to give any kind of fair estimation.

If this is a factory made 17 FB knowing which sub model Rem 700 it is or better yet posting a picture of it would be very helpful.

There's just to many unknown variables. If we can narrow those down it'll give you a more specific value versus a range that could potentially under value it.

My condolences to you and the family for the loss of a best friend and loved one.

It’s a true Remington. Came in a laminated stock with Remington butt pad but Ben loved this Boyd’s thumb hole for shooting out of the truck window. Action is a G serial number. We replaced the trigger with a nicely tuned old model.

Hotshot,

If you want to move it - send me a PM with a price.

Why would that be?? I think the latest one of mine is a G prefix and I have several that are "no prefix". They are NOT for sale but I have to question why you would think they are worth less that they were yesterday. I am not being a smartass I really want to know your thinking. Gary

I was being a smartass. I would guess the older and more rare 700 chamberings will only go up in value since Remington went under, and it’s anyone’s guess how the future 700s will be. 17 and 221 FB rifles seem to always sell higher than others.

Looks nice. Is there any chance you could post a pic looking straight at the bolt face?

Anyone looking for a M700 that's suitable for a 20VT build should seriously consider buying this rifle. The M700s set up for 17FB by the factory feed & eject very well when barreled for the 20 VarTarg.
