Remington 600 243 collector interest or value

A friend has a 243 model 600 with the vent rib that he is thinking of selling. Any ideas as to the value of this rifle, it's probably 85-90% , no rust , has been hunted some but doesn't look abused. Thanks for any input.

I have seen the prices really vary at gun shows. Anywhere from 600.00 up. The Rem mag model was scarce and brings more. Condition probably has a lot to do with prices. Matt

the 85-90% condition hurts, I have see them in the $450-500 when showing that level, if bluing is 98% or better and the wood is good, then the value indicated above is workable. what they ask is one thing, what they sell for is another.

I love the 600's, have since I was a teenager. I look at every single one I see at a show. they had a bunch this past weekend at the Fishersville, va show. they were all $600 and up no matter the condition. they also were not selling, many were in the condition you state. one guy did have a 350 rem mag that looked un-fired, brand new condition. he had 1k on it. the last one I bought was $450, and it was in new condition, from a collector. I think caliber means a lot as well. .243 and .308 are everywhere. .222 common too. I think area you live means a lot too.

Beware of asking price data. Some of the attached Guns International listings are a good example of inflated asking prices.

I did look at gunbroker & thought the prices that they had on them were unrealistic and also it didn't appear that they were selling. He wants to sell it at a fair price but not totally give it away either.

Yep, Gunbroker can give a false impression. Some of those "high priced gun adds" roll over for a year. You have to focus on the guns people actually bid on. That will give a better sense of real value. Sometimes, though, somebody really wants a gun or gets auction fever and the price goes high. I was on it and found a Tikka Master Sporter 308. I got it for $1250. The very next week, another one came up in 7-08. It went for $1675. Might have been a caliber thing, who knows?

Got me an education with this topic.

Back in the 60's I bought my Rem 600 in 6mm Rem. Just used it to kill a deer last year. Over the years it has taken many deer and q few groundhogs. Cracked the stock decades ago and fixed the crack. Played with those plastic versions of replacement stocks with no success and got rid of them. Bought a metal trigger guard/floor plate and that helped the rifle shoot nicely. Sent it to Remington just a few years ago and they replaced the trigger on a recall that was decades old for no charge. Basically, except for a one-day successful usage last year, have forgotten it.

Thought about selling. Now I'm thinking about actually using it again. Darn thing has been good to me and now shoots MOA groups and better. The day is soon coming when it will go. For now and this thread, it has gotten new respect.

It's a nice light handy gun, but so are others. And collectors have driven asking prices to ridiculous levels. I don't understand the attraction other than they're no longer made, which is enough to attract collectors. I's never pay any kind of premium for something with a cheesy cheap-looking screwed on plastic rib and a cheap plastic non-opening triggerguard/floorplate that would warp.
