Remington 591 5mm RM value

Walked in a local gun store today and he had a pit of 591 in 5mm on the shelf. Metal and everything was in very good shape. The one with the prettier darker stock had some songs in the wood and the lighter colored stock was nearly perfect. They were asking $599 for either one but he said cash will work some magic on price. Just curious what these are worth.

That price would be a hard pass unless it came with a brick or two of ammo included because that's where the money is.

Just a thought, but maybe contact Grafs. That's where I bought my ammo last year and see if they're expecting another order or not. When it first showed up it was $26 and change per single box or $23 and change for 3 or more boxes. Within a few weeks it was $39 a box. Then gone.

A 5mm magnum article FYI

PS: I had a model 592. Sold it probably 15 years ago when ammo was still available. Rifle not very accurate with either Remington or Aguila ammo. Lousy trigger. I wouldn't pay more than $250 - $300 for one in decent shape.

Dont buy either one!

They were a neat rifle back in their day but its not worth the trouble finding ammo or finding parts if you ever break a extractor.

Two piece bolt is no good and the triggers are the same ones from a 788 or 580 Remington. They can be worked on and machined adjustable but its not worth it in the long run.

Neat little rifle for sure and i enjoyed mine years ago but with today’s market i would leave them two rifles set on the shelf!

If looking at a rimfire magnum get the 17 HMR and dont look back!

I sold a 591 and 2 boxes of Centurion ammo two years ago for $450. When I got in the mid 90’s for $90, I was going to convert it to 5mm Craig but never got past the planning stage.

All these posters are right unless you have ammo to shoot, it is just a collectible for a remington collector. I would look at some other rimfire rifle to shoot. They were a cheap rifle to buy in the day I think 70-80 dollars to buy one.

That’s about the usual asking price - depending upon condition. If you do decide to buy make sure the seller guarantees in writing feed/fire/function. As stated already the extractor is a real weak point.
