Remington 572 help

The slide release on this older 572 Fieldmaster is not under any tension. Is there a spring in the trigger assembly that keeps the slide release under tension? It just moves around with no resistance & the fore-end won't stay locked forward even on an empty chamber. Is this repair job something that I could do or more specialized for a gunsmith?

Where would I find the parts?

Been a while since I was into mine. It could probably stand a good cleaning. But yes, it should have tension on it. Great little guns. Maybe my all time favorite 22. Take the trigger group out and I bet you find the problem pretty quick. I'd do it in a ziplock bag. The problem might fall out otherwise.

If I recall, the 572 has a trigger group very similar to the 870? In principal at least. Yes, there is likely a spring broken or "jumped out".

Always start with a good hosing out with gumout or similar, then brake cleaner, just to see what you have.
