Remington 541 custom sporter ?

why is it called a custom sporter ? Is it best at 50 ft sporter rifle matches or is it equally accurte at 100 yds ?

I hope you meant "50 yard" matches.
The 541 has an excellent reputation as a target rifle and usually 50 y is going to be about as far as it's competitiveness reaches.
I don't have an answer to the naming convention.

sorry I meant to say 50 ft indoors and also 50 yd outdoors. If I read right you say 50 yds is the longest range it is competitive ?

Yeah, not that you can't have fun at 100 but the Anshutz and Vudoo and Win 52 guys will dominate.

50 ft indoors sounds like a hoot. Get some good ammo when you can find it and have fun.

The 541 S models were made from 1972 to 1983. These were made to mimic full sized CF sporters with a fancy hand checkered walnut and rosewood tipped stock. Since demand remained high the 541 was re-introduced in 1986 as the Model 541 T and a heavy barrel version was added in 1993. The earliest models are probably going to be the best shooting with match chambers and hand fitted barrels. You can check the two letter date code on the left side of the barrel
