bore guide

I have a Remington 541 custom sporter and a Possum Hollow bore guide. The guide fits so tight that it is extremely hard to get all the way in and then back out.
Is there a trick to using it ?
It used to go in easy but something happened and now it is very tight. Could I have bent something in the receiver ?

If I recall correctly the safety on the 541/581 series is a plunger that raises up from the trigger when engaged and is down when the safety is disengaged.
Make sure your safety is in the fire position and try inserting the boreguide, I suspect that the plunger is interfering.

Aside from making sure the safety is down, if that guide has a rubber O ring on it, see if it has not expanded and needs replaced.

Actually the plunger I referred to is the bolt stop but it is controlled by the safety lever. So when you are putting the bore guide in be sure and press the lever down just like you have to do in order to remove the bolt.

My thoughts exactly, although you have to push to push the safety FORWARD, past the the fire position to remove or insert the bolt. Same should be true for inserting some bore guides.

Well since it used to go in easy something has obviously changed, since it is unlikely that the bore guide has grown or that the receiver has shrank here is the way I would go at the problem.
Strip the receiver completely of everything but the barrel, this should include scope bases, trigger, magazine box and anything else that is attached.
With the receiver completely stripped insert the bore guide, it should fully insert since there should not be anything for it to catch on.
Assumming now that the boreguide slides into the receiver without any issues begin installing parts again. Install a part and see if the guide still slides in and out properly, if it does then hand the next part on. Eventually you should find the part that is binding the boreguide or the boreguide should slide in and out properly.
Hint - when installing the trigger just lightly snug the screw at the forward end of the trigger housing (the one that adds tension to the trigger housing). The trigger housing is a poorly cast aluminum piece and it the screw is overtightened it will crack the housing at the 90 degree angle where the arm meets the main casting. This is not something you want to have happen.

good luck - drover

I did like shortine said and put marker on the bore guide and inserted it and seen where the marker was scratched. Then took my dremel and shaved a little off the bore guide and now it goes in and out very nicely with just a little snug to hold it in place

Thanks to everyone for your replies, I appreciated it.
