Remington 511

I went thru my 511 that my Dad gave me in 1964, it had been at home in my brothers safe and it needed to be stripped and re blued and refinished. It had a broken butt pate and a piece of the wood stock was missing. I use to shoot it and had a blast doing so, I found a box of Coast to Coast shells that had a price tag of 43 cents per box. I re cold blued all the steel parts. I will NEVER EVER brake down the action on a 511 again. 4 hours to get it back together. still shaking my head. I mounted some Burris rings, high, and a Nickon 3x9 that I had on the shelf and it clears by a thick piece of paper, about 1/32", got lucky I guess. Going to shoot it today at 25 yards and then give it to my Grandson when my daughter thinks her boy can operate a rifle safely. I can't wait :) by the way I have a long wait, he is 16 months old :(

First rifle I ever shot as a young boy was a Remington 510P. About 10 years ago I found one that looks new in a gunshop I stopped at while traveling. I bought it. It has no serial number . I called Rem., they told me the 510 came out just before Federal law required serial numbers. Even with my 71 yr old eyes, at 25 yards it will shot tiny little groups almost every shot through the same hole. Very amazing given the more than terrible trigger. I would be interested in how accurate your 511 is with a scope. I am unwilling to drill and tap my 510.

Lovely. I had a 513T that i cleaned up. Wonderful rifle that I eventually sold to s fine gentleman in TX.

I guess I've got three of those now, one of which is in a 521T stock.

<-------- This little chick here shoots this one with a bi-pod and is pretty much 100% within fifty yards. Without the bipod she lacks the mojo to hold it up.

I've monkey'd with them enough to get pretty tricky about assembling them. One of them I acquired one piece at a time off of Ebay. The newer versions have grooved receivers such as yours. Makes it handier for optics. Weaver makes bases for the guy who needs to drill and tap. jd

Nice work I did the same with my Dad's old Remington 510 TargetMaster (there's advertising hype!) that he passed down to me. He purchased it new in 1947 for the vast sum of $7.00, if I remember correctly. An awful lot of kids (sons, daughters, niece's, nephews and grandkids) learned to shoot by starting with that rifle...including me. Still surprisingly accurate and a perfect trainer by being a single-shot and having an automatic safety.

Took the 511 out this morning and shot off my poles so it didn't get a good rest :( the wind was blowing 5 to 15 11 o'clock. shot 50 rounds of GECO 22 LR. so I guess it is sighted in some what, next time I will give it a good bench rest and ammo and see what it will do. It worked :)
