Remington 40XC

I bought a Remington 40 XC in 7.62 Nato with a Kevlar stock several years ago. I bought this gun to shoot the highpower National Match course and got some good groups from a bench with a scope on it. My best five-shot group was .348" at 100 yards. I just couldn't shoot it well with open sights. What other courses of fire could I shoot with this gun in this caliber if I use a scope?

You can use it in XTC matches with a scope but you'd have to modify the stock to use one of the numerous detachable magazine systems. You can also shoot prone matches with it with a scope if the match allows any sight, or you can shoot F/TR.

Nope, gun is no good for anything...you need to give it to me so I can help you avoid any rule bending or showing up at some match where it is not the latest and greatest. Really, I would do that for you.

As the rifle is right now, long range prone or f-tr are your best bets. I would shoot a sling as that rifle and stock were meant to be shot that way. You could shoot XTC, but like Scott mentioned, you will have to add the DM kit. I would try a prone match and go from there. That is pretty close to what you wanted to do originally, but will allow you to use the scope. FYI, shooting any sight the whole time will generally eliminate you from the grand age/overall winner. Most prone matches are a mix of iron sight matches and any sight matches.

Bob, go to a match and observe and ask questions there. They will allow you to shoot any way you can to start. Once you get going you will pick a direction and go through the learning curve to get where you want to go. Just know that all competitors are in it to help others do their best. Have fun!
