Reminder as competition season is starting

Everyone here does a good job encouraging our youth (under 18) to shoot but don't forget the new to the shooting sport youth. If the person is 20 or 60 but new to the sport let's help them

You know the kid (well I'm 35 myself) but the one who shows up to an F-class match with a brand new RPR in 6.5 Creedmoor that all the old guys laugh from the other end of the line and aren't willing help or show the kid anything and he never comes back. That kid is the future of the sport we need to remember that.

I've seen it at matches and I've seen it here where someone asks a question and is laughed at or made fun of. I'm not saying we need to be sensitive and go to safe spaces. I'm saying we need to be willing to be open minded, just because they have tactical pants on instead of a shooting jacket doesn't mean they don't want to come out and be competitive.

Just my two cents worth and a friendly reminder.

Excellent post.

Me and the Smith brothers shoot thousands of arrows (trad bows) at every level of competition. We make a point of finding single shooters at these events and have them join our group. It sucks shooting by yourself, and way too often we get running with the same group of friends, which is good but.....getting new blood in the sport will show up,down the rd.And you never know, the guy may be sitting on 1000 acres of unmolested land....or his family owns a machine shop, etc etc.

yep just the other day had to check zero on my scope after moving it and met a young man at the range got to talking next thing I know he’s on my gun banging away one thing led to another and it looks like I will be loading up a extra rifle and coaching him at the next match we have.

That is exactly how i got into F-class shooting.
Heard about a local match so i loaded up a bunch of 270 with 140gr bergers and found a decent load and went to 600 yards to figure out how all this stuff works out.

Learned pretty quick that you cant get a Remington Sporter barrel hot or it shoots like poo. First match i showed up with my factory Remington 700 .270, no bipod cause it would throw the rounds all over the place with any pressure on the front of the stock. So i used a Carhartt FR Pants leg full of creek sand for the magazine floor plate to sit on. After all that i ended up winning the gold in Open class with that piece o junk rifle. I got addicted after that.

Some of the old timers come over laughing in good nature. Said they never seen anybody get beat up that bad from a rifle and take the Gold.
I still feel it today also. My shoulder doesn't care for much recoil.

After talking to alot of the guys i ended up finding a good deal on another Remington in 308 and used it alot.
In the mean time i had burnt a .22-250 barrel out and put a mcgowen .22-250 9 twist barrel on it and used it for several matches with 80gr Bergers. Then got my first suppressor and put together a 300WM and had a whole lot of fun.

I miss shooting with them old timers.

I still have that .270 in the safe with a burnt out barrel.
