Remember Herters Wasp Waisted bullets?

I never shot the wasp waisted bullets, but we shot tons of 50 Sierra Lightnings and Hornady's. Which I believe were 52 gr. We also got some of the 48 gr. bullets that made the .220 Swift so popular.

And yes, that .222 Savage 340 was what I used and is still in the family.
 
Old memories. Had a savage 340 in 222 R and shot the same bullet with 4895. Killed many a rabbit and squirrel with the combo. That was back in 1951-54.
 
I still have a partial box from back in1970.

Tried them in a 22-250 and they didn't shoot well at all-----just keepsakes from another time and place.

I took off the front bbl band, and welded a tang on the back end of the receiver. ran a 1/4-28 machine screw up from the rear of the trigger guard into the tang.,
I took the barrel band off and tuned it with cardboard shims, maybe that's why I jumped on tuners about 10 or 12yrs ago for my competition rifles.
