Remage pre fit barrels, a couple questions

I considering a remage pre fit in 270w or 280 rem. Mcgowan is one choice ihave come across that many people seem to have had positive results with. Are there any other ones i should be considering?
Is 5r rifling really better?
I would be shooting 130-150 grain bullets in 270, 140-160 in 280 i am guessing a standard chamber would work fine for me, do i need to specify any certain freebore length?
anything else i should ask or know? I have never had barrel or chamber work done before

McGowen barrels are a good choice. You might check out Ragged Hole barrels, Sparks, NV also.
Call one of them and discuss what they offer, in the calibers you are interested in and see what they recommend for freebore, etc. ( Also right here on site, we have a company offering prefits also.. Urbanrifleman. )

I have to say I was very impressed with my .243win McGowen Savage prefit. I have Shilen, Krieger, Bartleien, and the McGowen looked as good or better than any of them with a bore scope. It shoots excellent and cleans up very well.

I've used a barrel from McGowan. X caliber and Shilen - all shot at least some 1/2 MOA groups - prone with a sling. Also had groups larger than 1/2 MOA - but, shooting from a sling, difficult to sort out me vs the barrel.

Go with one of the best cut rifled barrel. Bartlein. brux, kreiger. You will not be sorry.

5R is not and should not be a deal maker or deal breaker. I have 5R barrels that are dogs and 5R barrels that are ringers! People like to latch onto buzz words and while 5R is a real thing the difference between canted land rifling vs more conventional styles is not magic. Think about it the people that really made this a big deal and applied the most historically are the Russians not exactly the paragon of accuracy! A company either makes an accurate barrel or they do not the rest is marketing.

Same thing goes for carbon wrapped barrels carbon wrapping does nothing to enhance the accuracy potential of the barrel. It can not make the barrel stiffer than it was before material was removed to wrap it in carbon fiber.

There are too many companies that make accurate barrels and remage pre-fits to list.

A good canted land rifled barrel can be cleaner and faster but not all of them are and not all of them are the same. Just like no one nails down what is "match grade".

One more dumb question: playing around on mcgowans website, when i build a 30 cal barrel it asks to chose button or cut rifling and cut rifling is a 100 upgrade. In 270 it does not give me a choice, so i am guessing it is button rifled. Cut is better right? Is a button rifled barrel much better than a factory barrel? The reason i am doing it is bacuase it is soooo deep throated. If a barrel is not significantly better i may be better off just doing a set back on the factory barrel.

NICE! group.

Interesting to see that McGowan is now offering some cut rifled barrels [looks like just 30cal].
I've heard that there is no difference in accuracy between well made button or cut rifled barrels.
I have also heard that cut rifling will maintain it's peak accuracy longer.
