Rem XR100 6br load ?

Is anyone shooting a Remington XR100 6BR, with a Krieger barrel, 108 Bergers, what is the load your using ? We have 2 of these rifles and are using 108 bergers with 30.1 grs of Varget, CCI 450 mag primers, Lapua brass, and were having problems with piercing primers with both rifles, MV is approx 2860 fps. It's a great load for accuracy, but I'm scared to use it because of the primer piercing problem so I'm wondering what load others are using with this 108 Berger bullet and the same rifle, barrel, etc.
info appreciated.

You could be at the high end of the pressure scale. But first I would check the amount of firing pin protrusion ! .035" should be sufficient, You dont want much more than that. Also make sure the pin is round and not flat with sharp edges.

Thanks, yes, I am at the high end of the pressure scale, and the pin protution is approx .050 on both rifles, and they are both rounded. I used to load with 30.6 grains without a problem, then once I started piercing primers I kept lowering the load, I tryed a brand new firing pin assy., then a brand new barrel, then we bought another brand new rifle and still having the same problem, everything is fine if I keep the load below 30.0 grains of varget and jump the bullets, but thats not the most accuarte load for either one of these rifles, thats why I'm wondering if anyone else has the same rifle with a similar load.
Thanks, Ron

Ron,

I know what you problem is. It is not the firing pin protution. It is size of the firing pin hole and cleanence of the firing pin. This is a common problem with the 6BR, when you run heavy bullets in guns with the larger firing pin hole ( like a Remington) I have a Hall action , (with a larger clearence) that will start to crater at lower pressures than my Bat and Stiller.

You can have the firing pin hole bushing and the firing pin turned to fit, this will help a lot.

You will have to back off you loads, or you will run into trouble. I use CC! BR4, don't know if changing primer would help, you are using CCI's now. Another hard primer is a Remington 7 1/2.

With My Stiller and Bat I can use Fed 205GM, but the Hall needs the CCIbr4.

I do not want to infringe on anyone's opinion, I've had rem 7 1/2 primers blow at powder charges (pressures) way below that of CCI #450's. My gun, my loads you may have different results.

I had a very simalar problem with my 6BRX. I am using Rem 7 1/2's and some were pierced after firing. Sent the bolt to G-Tran and had it bushed. Got the bolt back in 3 days! Problem went away never to return. Believe me it's well worth the money (really not very much) and the work is top notch. Best improvement I made to the rifle.

Thanks, I think I will give the bolt bushing & smaller pin a try, along with some different powder like RL 15 & RL 17.
Thanks, really appreciate the info.
