Rem rear bolt sleeve

Just wondering what folks are doin here. I’m getting mixed results using epoxies and not diggin it really.

I’m sure the pros are doin a cold solder. I have found that only fresh epoxies want to stick well. I’ve done my second bolt and bout to go to three but lookin for info. Don’t like all this screwing around.

Most pros used to dovetail in a blank and fit, or turn down the bolt body and fit a full round sleeve. These days they install a new bolt- money ahead

SRM,
If a client opts for sleeves rather than replacing the bolt. I've always used Loc-tite 640 . Never had a issue, And I have some clients that are pretty rough on their rifles.

The Borden bumps. Saw that a few years back. I considered it but would have to make ten inserts before I get the right fit.

Every insert is the same. You just buy dovetail blanks. Not the same as a borden bump this was way before that but does the same thing

Rather than the standard depth for iron sight dovetails (.090) I cut the dovetail .060 deep. Before I started using the dovetail blanks, I was plunge-cutting with a 3/8 end mill and soldering in a button then turning the buttons to fit. The dovetail inserts eliminate the need for solder. Before I started using inserts, I cut a recess and soldered on a split sleeve.
I can't remember for sure, but it may have been John Fry who used screws in the receiver bridge to center the bolt. A different approach to accomplish the same thing. This was before I was doing anything to the bolt at all. WH

I like the dovetail blanks! Lots of good ideas. I looked at the price of a Pt&g bolt and it’s close to the price of a new Rem action. I’ll keep sleeving my bolts.
Thanks fellers

Don't discount the PTG two-piece bolt either. That $150 for your old bolt will leave you with some change to buy solder and paste.

I’m starting to feel pretty small. I have no idea how to time a bolt. Trued and built lots of Remington’s and all have worked fine.

Any new ideas on this mod as my bolt is scheduled for surgery! Gonna sleeve the back for a cleaner firing pin release and hopefully a little more energy.

I sleeve and epoxy but this thread has me thinking.

How about knurling and turning the knurls down to dimension??

Kind of a neat idea. It would work for the front bush, but you can't get a knurler around the bolt handle for the rear.

Wow that's some expensive chit!
I was shocked recently when I went to get more. It was always a little expensive but not like it is now hence the urge to try the Bob Smith Ind version. I think I mentioned that or no??? FWIW I and many have used Bob Smith super glues for decades so I'd hope the toughened/rubberized will be good too.
