Rem or Savage?

Comparing the 110 action with the Model 12 target action is a mistake. Also, the bolt head system Savage uses is unique to others and seems to offer an advantage. I have owned various Savages and Remingtons over the years and can say that the old stock 110's,and model 10's) shoot like the Remington 700's. There is not much difference between them with the lower dollar Savages. However, when you get into a target action and trigger and their bull barrels, which can rival custom barrels) it's a different story. Remington simply cant stack up. Take a look at a local F-class match, what you will see is a bunch of high end custom guns and a few savages, less and less 'trued' stock remingtons. At the end of the day the Savages don't do to bad and sometimes they take the day! I am sure some people at Remington are getting very rich right now working up a design to compete,3 guys in a white room) while everyone else is going broke due to sales. We will probably see this new design very soon. Until then Savage leads the way.. Oh yea, the reason we don't see any Savage clones is because we don't need to!

REMINGTON 700 or SAVAGE 12? Both are super-accurate, so your preference establishes the KEY. Something about Remington gravitates me toward that 'quality-word.' Still nothing about Savage turns-me-off. It's a dilemma, but a delightful one. I doubt you can go wrong with either choice. Cliffy

Apparently many of you would rather have a Savage than a Remington 700. I'll do you guys a favor and let you trade me a Remington 700 for a Savage 110 that I have. Mine has a Boyds Thumbhole stock with a 24' Douglas 1:12 twist heavy barrel in 22-250 Ackley Improved. If any of you have a comparable rifle in a Remington 700 short action I'll do you a favor and let you trade me out even, any takers?

i have 4 savages in 204, 22-250,and 2 300 wsm all with mc gowen prefit barrels. they all shot under an inch before putting custom barrels on them, now they all shoot under 1/2 inch and mostly 1/4 inch and sometimes in the same hole. when i do my part and load confrigration. i wont ever buy a rem again when savages are tack drivers. my rems didnt shoot worth a crap thats why i sold them and bought savages.

Well Mr. X3MHunter that is one spirited response and I wont get all worked over someone like you online, but I want to offer this. I put a custum Sharp Shooter trigger on my model 110 tactical. It took me a little time but it was SIMPLE. I got it in the mail open it up READ the directions bing, bam, boom. Now it adjusts from 12oz to 2lbs., no creep, very little over travel,I adjusted it to my liking on that also), and talk about the glass rod. I have it turned up all the way cause I hunt with it and that trigger is sweet. And did I say that it cost me $95.00 shipped. And the clone thing, who cares, Savage sells target and standard actions. And if you call sharp shooter they will make you just about anything you want, and in not much time. For a good price. Also think about custom things for the 700. One comes to mind, the Tubb bolt. It does have a large bolt body, and maybe that is smoother, but main thing that bolt does for mostly short action 700's is the small firing pin and hole to handle high pressure. Now if you want a cool little option like that on a savage, get a bolt head and install it. I think both guns are great, the 700 BDL is THE classic hunting rig to me. But with quality of the savage being what it is, out of the box you can get to 1000yds. for $1300 or there abouts.

Ok, I agree that putting in a sharp shooter trigger is easy, I have one too. But have you ever tried to pull off the entire trigger assembly? not so easy. By the way, does anybody know the part number for a Jewell trigger for a Savage?

Ohh, and don't forget about my sweet offer, it still stands! And I'll even sweeten the deal, I'll take a FACTORY Remington 700 heavy barreled in trade, it does not have to have a custom barrel like mine does.

i have both. the rem 700 sps needed a new stock from the start but i knew that getting into it, so add an hs precision stock and your up to 8-9 hundred. i was lucky, this thing shoots like a house on fire now. a lighter trigger would be nice but the x-mark is very crisp and adjusted down to a modest 3 lbs

next one up. i had my mind set on a fast twist .22-250, savage 12 VLP 1-9 twist fit the bill, very refined rifle for $800 out the door. accutrigger is way lighter than the x-mark, without checking it i'd guess an even 2 lbs. it's just a beautiful rifle with great craftsmanship while the SPS screams workhorse

rem has a much bigger aftermarket but i'd bet the savage is a better quality rifle

My two cents guys is both guns are good guns I have both a 40x Rem.in 22-250 thats 20 years old and still shoots MOA at 300yds. I also have a Savage 110 LRPV in 6BR with a 1/8 twist that I got in May of this year. It have less than 150 rounds down the tube and shoots in the 1's at 100yds and at 400yds it will shoot 5 shot groups in 1 1/2 all day if I do my part. What I will say is that you have to spend more money to get a Remington to shoot as good as a Savage out of the box. Good Luck with what ever you decide to buy.
