I've a few ? for y'all. First who makes a replacement bolt shroud and firing pin? Trying to replace the j lock.I also need a recommendation for a good smith. I'm building a 223 for varmints. I want the action blueprinted, krieger barrel, jewell trigger, mcmillian stock. Is it nessasary to put bushing front and rear on the bolt?TIA

I sent a friend to Bob Brackney to have just such a rifle built, and he has been more than pleased with the quality of the work, and the accuracy of the rifle. It is a 6BR set up for varmint weight bullets.

Bob is one of the very top gunsmiths for Benchrest quality work on Remington actions. Either last year or the year before, he won the California State 4-Gun Benchrest Championship against a field almost entirely composed of custom actions. All of his rifles were built around Remington actions that he had sleeved.

My friend's varmint rifle was built on an unsleeved action, converted to single shot, pillar bedded into a McMillan hunter benchrest stock. It has a Krieger barrel, Jewel trigger, Weaver bases, Burris pos-align rings, and a B&L 6-24 scope. The action has been hard chromed. It shoots little tiny groups, much to the satisfaction of its owner. I was not a bit surprised.
