Rem M700 Bolt Strange

This one too, it's rivet.
And the extraction was tested already with dummy rounds and works fine.

Only thing missing is shooting, but will be take it soon to test it.

Will give feedback on the tests.

I have one in the shop right now where the grinding job on the rivet was so overdone that it was almost impossible to find the rivet and completely impossible to find enough of it to properly center a punch. Some measuring, the tiniest center drill I could find, a very small center punch and (finally) a punch to get that thing out. Oh yeah - the extractor was DOA. I agree with all of the QA/QC comments. What should have been a fifteen minute job took a LOT longer, all because some ham-fisted Neanderthal with a grinder is running around loose at Remington.

It's been several years since I bought a complete M700 rifle, but that one was pretty decent. It was a stainless fluted 17FB in their CDL stock, which was very nicely finished. I bought it as the basis for a 20VarTarg build, so pulled the fluted 17FB SS bbl w/o ever shooting it & sold it through the classified section here. Bartlein made a .204" bore 5R that was turned to the same contour as the OEM bbl for me, and I chambered it for the 20VT. Bead blasted the Bartlein to get a closer match to the action's matte blasted finish, and had a very nice looking rifle. I've only seen one other CDL stock up close, but it was finished as nicely as the one on my rifle.

OTOH - I've seen several OEM M700 bbls that had some pretty ugly machine work in the bores when viewed with my Hawkeye borescope. And their tupperware stocks - ugh. But what do we expect when the majority of American shooters are only willing to spend the bare minimum it takes at frickin' wally world to walk out the door with a functioning(?) rifle? Remington's not the only company building rifles priced at the absolute bottom dollar figure that Walmart demands. Sometimes I really, really wish Walmart would just go away....not that I would wish that on all their employees, but the damage they've done to the U.S. economy is unfathomable.

Wally-World went south about the time the dirt settled on Old Sam W and believe me Homer Depot, Lowels, have done the same !

I have a 16.5" Rem700 SPS in .308 and it's great! I Have a brand new Obermeyer SS 5R to put on it and I might just hold off. it will shoot 1/2 MOA all day with a few bullets. I typically only shoot to 600 but it will ring the 5" gongs without hesitation. For such a short and accurate rifle I almost hate to even rebarrel it. May keep it short, accuracy is fine for my purposes and would be great with a suppressor once I get my form 1 back. Must have been a mid day Wednesday gun while the manager was walking around.
