Rem M700 Bolt Strange

Hi guys,

I have bought a new Remington M700 SPS .300WM, and taking it out of the box i took a good look at the bolt and it was like this.

Let me remind that this is a brand new rifle, never took a shoot, i guess only the one's they make at the factory.

Will it be safe to shoot?? What do you think?

Not a good piece of work.

But if it's really the work of the "grinder guy" i feel a little safe when to go shooting it.

Thank you guys for the help.

Will be taking it to the shooting range and see how it performs!!!

Ugh...I'm a Remington guy but it's getting harder and harder to love them.

I would say it's safe to shoot. Not sure what kind of accuracy to expect from it.

I believe for the last several years the extractors are spring loaded and not pinned. The pinned extractors are almost unobtainable.

Don't the bolts with the magnum size boltface still utilize the pin?

Edit: Brownells and Midway have them in stock.

I would insist they replace it - even tho it'll be a enormous PIA. What happens if you should want to sell it in the future?

Hate that it happened. Good luck

Remington has had poor quality for so long now I don't understand why anyone would buy their products. I bought my last Remington 700 in 2006 and it was garbage. Finish on stock bubbled and peeled , contact on only one lug and only about 25% on that lug , bore was rough as a cobb and was tight at the bore then felt to open up and then tight at the muzzle. It will be the first action I will work on when I get setup with my lathe.

Granted , Remington has suffered in the qc , but it's a tool , it's safe , use it . If you want a good looking tool go custom !
