Rem Long Action Detachable mags with short rounds?

How well do short rounds like 308 and 284 feed from long action magazines? I am going to build an f-t/r rifle with detachable mags, but there are many more potential donor rifles available in long action.
 
Not sure how many folks on this site use L/A's for S/A rounds. You might find more info on Sniper's Hide or Sniper Central. Several on those sites do that.
 
Judging by the way it works with savage actions so well,I am almost sure it would work with the intermediate cartridges in a remington.I have seen it done before but if you go to .223 or something like that then you would have to get aftermarket metal to make it happen.
