Rem fieldmaster 572 .22LR

I have one of these that was my grandfathers and i really like the rifle but i have not been able to get it to shoot for beans. Buddy of mine (muleman69)recently bought a pretty high end bore scope so he scoped the barrell and it seems the rifling is very worn. My ? is can these rifles be rebarrled ? I've heard of drilling out the bore and putting in a sleeve. Anybody know what my options are to bring this thing back to life ?
Thanks

My guess s the bore is not as worn as you suspect unless it has gone through 100's of thousands of rounds.
I suspect it spent it's life never getting a comprehensive cleaning and the bore is badly fouled.
I would spend a little elbow grease with a cleaning before you decide.

Could be. I have scrubbed it really good but just with Hoppes. Maybe i'll try some Sweets.

Rimfire solvents are designed to remove primarily waxy lube not copper fouling.
Get some citrus based rimfire blend.
IOSSO bore cleaner is a white paste designed for carbon, I'd guess you have plenty of both.

Chore Boy is a all copper scouring pad that is often used to remove led fowling from barrels. It is sometimes difficult to find in stores because crack-heads use it in their crack pipes as a screen. Often stores are out of them or just don't carry them. Some imitation copper scrubbers are coper plated steel, no bueno, do not use them.

and at one time they even came with a red handle on them,,

As long as it locks up & functions normally..Carefully Clean it w special lead fouling cleaner & check the crown..Those are decent old sporting rifles.. one inch or less at fifty yards should not be a problem...also see if it prefers a different ammo....The cheap stuff is just that...I like CCI green tag in my sporters...Mike in Ct
