remington moved the extractor position for better ejection with the fireball case and I was wondering if ejection troubles would arise when using a 222 based cartridge in an action designed for the fireball case. Thanks for any advice and knowledge!
I bought a used 223 VSSF, shot it first to see if it was worthy of a re=chamber, and then had it set back and chambered in 221 FB. It was strictly a prairie dog gun, so I never ran anything through the magazine, but it never failed to eject or drop the empties on the bench or my hand.
I've heard of the troubles as well, but never experienced them myself.
I dug out a piece of 222 rem brass and put it in chamber, then pushed bolt face into the base of brass until extractor snapped onto case. then i pulled bolt back to extract and eject fired case. the 222 rem case extracts fine but does not eject out of port. with the extractor positioned for the fireball cases it makes the neck of the longer cases hit the top of the ejection port and bounce back onto mag follower. Not what i was hoping to see!! Im pretty much set on a 20-222 over the VT and will probably have a M16 extractor installed to cure this problem.
