Hi,
I'm in need of advice about how to best assemble the internal box magazine on a rem. 700 clone rifle I'm building . I'm a relative novice at gunsmithing and assembly so appreciate any help.
The rifle is a .308 win, with a Defiance Anti-X action, Hawken Oberndorf BDL bottom metal, and a rem 700 clone internal box mag. All are Remington short action.
The issue I'm concerned with is that there is a lot of "slop" inbetween the magazine metal and the action. The grooves on the bottom of the action which receive the upper edge of the magazine measure about 3.1" in length and the magazine metal itself measures 2.8". So the magazine metal can slide about .25" forward and backwards in the action.
Is this normal or do gunsmiths spot-weld or otherwise attach the magazine metal to the action so it can't slide?
is it better to slide the magazine metal as far forward in the action as possible or all the way back or in the middle?
Thanks!
