Rem bolt with Savage bolt head

Seen this mentioned on other site and had never heard of it before. I have a Rem 700 with 222 bolt head and would like to change to 308 size. Would the Savage conversion have any advantage over the standard boring out and using the Sako type extractor?

Another way to go would be to buy a replacement bolt from Pacific Tool, reamer mfg.). They are well made, inexpensive, and as an added bonus, may be ordered in a larger diameter, if you like, for a better fit. If you then sell your old bolt, given the going price for these, you will be in good shape for the least amount of money, and still have the safety of the original Remington bolt nose configuration.

The Savage bolt head floats, allowing it to align with the lug abutments when fired. A lot of people think that this is the reason that Savage rifles are known to be quite accurate right out of the box.
The best option for you would probably be to do a trade with someone wanting to go from 243, 22-250 or 308, etc, to a .223. Both of you would be happy for the price of shipping and insurance.
Caution, if either of you have the bolt that has the anti-bind slot in the right lug, both of you should. Some folks do not want to make the cut, prefer to have it on the bolt.
The Kiff option is also a viable solution but somebody will have to install the bolthandle and do it correctly.
