Rem. B. R. brass for palma loads

I Recently picked up a bunch of the discontinued Rem. 308 brass with the small primer pocket. The lot I have checks out well for uniformity and they are nice and light, averaging only 152 grains. I have heard of shooters using this case successfully at 600 yds but I'm concerned about consistent ignition with a full load of powder at 1000. They have a standard flash hole not the small hole like the Lapua palma brass. I know Lapua users have had misfires in cold weather but i wonder if that is from the small primer, small hole or both. I'm waiting until spring to begin load work. Has anyone used this brass at 1000 yds? Primer thoughts? I have Fed. 205m ,cci 450, Rem 71/2 and Tula std. I'm hoping to be able to use a little more Varget than with the Win cases i have since they weigh about 10 grs less. Any input would be welcome. Thanks

Have not used the Remington small primer brass but was intrigued when I saw it for sale. I have been using the Lapua Palma brass for three or four years now and like them (except that small rifle primers are harder to find than Wolf Large rifle). I have shot in temps as low as 30 degrees using BR4s and Fed. 205Ms with no problems. I believe that the Tula small magnum rifle primers would be a better choice than the standard small rifle primers (only because they have a reputation for smaller flash) but hopefully you can provide some input after your test.
Please let us know how your testing goes. I have been using Varget exclusively (have been very lucky in being able to find it when I needed it). 46-47 grains with 155s gives me about 2990 with a 30-32" barrel.

I've burned out a couple 1:10,1:12,1:13 twist 7.62 & 308 chambered Bbls running Remington URBR brass pushing 155's to 190's w/ Dupont IMR 4064 & VV N135/N140 powders shooting OTC & LR.

Shooting in temperatures ranging from 90*+ to -20*.
Keep the Jon-E Giant hand warmer fueled/fired/handy to assist trigger finger manipulation on cool days!

I also neck the URBR brass for 243/260 & 7mm08 chamberings.

Hodgdon Powders are NOT on my inventory list.

The case weight more often than not has little to do with internal Volume of the case which is where the combustion occurs. I have never had a Remington SP 308 case in my hands so I wonder what the internal Volume actually is... say over a current production Lapua Small Primer case. I wonder if it is like the Large Primer 308 Winchester vs Lapua internal volume? Just thinking out loud here.
I think you can find a few threads here about the corrolation between Case weight and Internal Volume or lack there of.. It might be of intrest to you... I know when I did my own tests I was kinda shocked.

Keep us posted.

In my humble opinion and having shot the small primer flash hole for years both the URBR, BR, and Lapua brass you're wasting your time with heavy bullets and powders slower than Varget or 4895. I will say from experience most cases with small primer pockets and small flash holes tend to weigh more. You know, a bigger primer pocket and a bigger flash hole leaves a " bigger hole " or void!
